If you have recently undertaken a renovation or update of a property there is a good chance the caulking element of that process may have been missed. It is often a forgotten task, but is very noticeable once all your works are complete.
For those that don’t know what caulking is, essentially it is the sealing of gaps were surfaces meet. Sealing the gaps ensures protection from water, drafts, insects and makes for a polished finish. Sealing joints helps protect your assets.
Knowing when caulking is needed is crucial. For example, grout can’t be used in corners of walls in a bathroom. Silicone is required as it is flexible, and moves as the building moves. If you were to grout corners, over time they could crack as the building contracts and expands, allowing for water ingress and potential major damage overtime. Caulking is flexible and will move with the building, stopping cracks.
Another area that is often forgotten is skirting boards. When replacing flooring, you typically replace the skirting boards. It is common more in older houses that the walls may not be totally straight. When new skirting is placed over it that is perfectly level, you may notice large gaps between the wall. In order to make this look more seamless, we can fill this gap. We can also recommend sealants that allow you to paint over them
